It's following me!

I can't seem to get away from it. The science fiction class that I scraped together for the last school has wormed its way into the curriculum for the first quarter of this coming school year. Only this time it can't be a film class. Great...I'm actually very ok with that....except for the fact I am yet again confronted with little to no classroom resources. I'm collecting short stories (any that I can copy or print out) and taking daily general (sometimes more specific) science courses over podcasts. I'm also collecting random science+fiction+world relations information and sites. Keep your eyes out, please?

Along those lines, this site is making me geeky happy: Biology in Science Fiction

Two words: "Harlan Ellison." He does hate the term "science fiction," though, and a lot of his short stories don't really involve "science." But still, his stuff is just amazing and he's written literally thousands of short stories.

Hmmm..I'll have to take a look.

I somewhat need the stories to have some science/realworld application to them. The class, as an elective, covers primarily cultural context standards.

We used a Sci Fi reader collection when I did my Sci Fi unit with 8th graders. There are some GREAT shorts by Bradbury, etc. I think I actually managed to walk out with one. I'll do some looking, and see if I can't come up with some magic. :) We also read "A Wrinkle in Time." HeeHee!

The school has a collection of "The Giver" which could make a great novel. I'm just afraid that it's too young for high school students. I guess all I can do is try.

Bradbury is great. Several of the short stories I have I managed to scoot out with copies from my student teaching as well.

So...how was that dust/sand storm in PHX? A friend who used to live there posted a video on her myspace. Looks like a lot less than fun. We'll ship you a missionary from the Black Vatican to check on your well-being and help with the relief efforts. ;)

The storm was odd, but was followed by a amazing rain storm. I played out in the rain and then sat in the window and watched it. Perfect!

Now we just need more rain....less dust storm stuff. Make sure you send a BCP armed with rainmaking powers, please?

How about dinner making powers? She's VERY good at that.

That sounds like a fabulous super power!
